Year 6 Holbrook students organise ‘Fiver for a Farmer’ appeal

Year 6 students at St Patrick’s Primary School, Holbrook have been inspired by Sydney Schoolboy, Jack Berne to initiate a ‘Fiver for a Farmer’ appeal at their school

Jack and his classmates at St John the Baptist Primary School at Freshwater had been hearing about the drought hardship devastating farmers across the country and Jack decided we had to do more to help.

It started as a simple idea to get schoolmates together on August 13 and dress up as farmers, bringing a “fiver for a farmer”.

“If we can raise some money, I think we can all feel better about helping our mates on the farms,” Jack said on the Fiver for a Farmer website his family created.

Year 6 students at St Patrick’s Holbrook have organised a series of games and activities for their fellow students on Monday 13 August, to emphasise the need to work together and support each other when times are hard.  All students have been encouraged to wear farm clothing for the day with all funds raised going to Rural Aid and Drought Angels.
