Yesterday evening, His Holiness Pope Francis appointed the most reverend Mark Edwards OMI as the sixth Bishop of the Diocese of Wagga Wagga.
Co-chairs of the Catholic Education, Diocese of Wagga Wagga’s Interim Management Committee, Kelly Bruce and Graham West welcomed the news “The appointment of a new Bishop is extremely exciting. On behalf of everyone in the 31 Catholic school communities across the diocese, we extend Bishop Edwards a very warm welcome as our principal teacher and offer him our prayers and support as we all journey together.”
Speaking about his appointment, Bishop Edwards said, ‘You have waited a long time for a new bishop. I thank you for all your perseverance, your patience and your goodwill, which have enabled the Diocese to function so well over these last three-and-a-half years.’
‘Because many of you can’t come to me, I will come to you. I do plan to move around and be in various parishes and meet as many of you as possible, as quickly as possible. I look forward to meeting you personally, learning the stories of your communities and working collaboratively with you in living out our mission as disciples of Jesus’.
